Here is a link to a letter issued by the Headteacher today regarding data collection of service children at Milford Haven School:…/Template-letter-to…
The Welsh Government has recently updated their definition of a Service child and committed £200,000 for the academic year 2020/21 to go to schools to support Service children. As such, it is important that we update the data we have, to ensure that any distribution is based on accurate identification and needs.
Furthermore, with the introduction of the four new Regional School Liaison Officers (RSLOs) for Service children, knowing the Service children we have on roll will be vital in enabling the most effective support.
The Welsh Government definition of a Service child
A ‘Service child’ has parent(s) – or person(s) with exercising parental responsibility – who is/are Service personnel:
• In HM Regular Armed Forces
• In full commitment as part of the full-time Reserve service
• Is a veteran who has been in service within the last two years
• One of their parents died whilst serving in the Armed Forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme.
We are asking all parents and carers to please complete the google form linked below so we can ensure our data is accurate, and that any Service children at MHS are receiving all support available to them.
🎅🏃‍♀️🎄MHS Santa Fun Run 2020. 🏃‍♀️🎁🎅
This year, due to Covid restrictions, we sadly cannot hold our fun run event in its usual format. We have been busy planning and have found an alternative way to bring you a Covid safe version of one of our most popular annual fundraisers. This year people will sign up to take part in the Santa Fun Run and be issued an event pack. Inside the pack you will be provided with a santa hat to run in, a bespoke engraved event medal, a completion certificate and some sweets. To sign up please see Miss Baker or any of the PE staff, packs will be available from Monday November 30th. The end date for this event is Wednesday December 9th.
All those who sign up can run at a time and location of their choosing within the specified time frame of November 30th- December 9th. We have suggested a 2K distance but you might want to set your own challenge of say 50 laps of your garden, or 20 laps around your local park. Some will want to run further and others less- whatever suits your individual ability is fine.
You do not have to be linked to the school to take part, and we are offering a discount for families as we would really like this to be accessible to the wider school community. We will be asking participants to share with us photos and videos of them running in their santa hats/ wearing their medals after completion, and we will be putting together an online album to celebrate the success of everyone who participates.

A huge thanks to Milford Haven Round Table who have generously sponsored this event, and also to

B-Fit Health & Fitness Club who are supporting us. Bret and his amazing team of fitness instructors have made a series of videos, which we will be sharing on our page to help us count down to our start date on Monday 30.11.20!
Thank you to all parents and carers that are supporting us during drop off and pick up times by being responsible with their driving and parking on school site. A reminder to please not park on or obstruct the roundabout in the Thornton car park as this prevents the school transport from reaching their designated parking bays timely and safely, it also hinders our pupils when trying to cross the road to make their way off site.
We are aware that there are congestion issues, and are working closely with Pembrokeshire County Council to implement a resolution as soon as possible. In the meantime we sincerely appreciate the shared efforts of everyone in keeping our young people, your children, as safe as possible at the start and end of the school day.
As part of our Christmas celebrations, Milford Haven School is running an online celebration of Christmas entitled ‘A different kind of Christmas’. We are looking for artwork, both 2D or 3D, drawing, paintings, digital, sculpture etc to showcase the vast creative talent within our school and spread some festive cheer.
We would like to see you produce a piece of artwork that celebrates ‘A different kind of Christmas’. And what that could mean to you? See the attached poster for details. All entries to Mr Green, either by email or handed in at break, lunch or during your lesson.
🎁🎄Nominate your Neighbour 🎅🎁
2020 has been one of the most difficult years that many of us have experienced, but in the face of adversity our community has come together and become stronger than ever. We know that there are people within our own community that need a helping hand and are especially vulnerable to the circumstances we find ourselves in.
Milford Haven School and Milford Youth Matters have together obtained funding for 50 mini hampers, to help support some of our most vulnerable community members. Christmas and the month of December can be hard for some families in a normal year, and these mini hampers will hopefully help alleviate some of the additional stresses and strains currently being created by CVD and the surrounding restrictions.
Nominations are now closed, but we look forward to sharing with you further updates on this very special project.
During these difficult and ever changing times of CVD19 we have worked hard to keep our school calendar alive, however there are some face to face events that simply cannot be replaced with online or remote alternatives.
Sadly, due to the current restrictions in place, we have had to postpone the Senior Certificate Evening which was calendared for Thursday 17th December 2020.
Given the nature of the event and it’s audience, combined with the restrictions which are likely to be in place following Christmas, the proposed new date for the event is Thursday 1st July 2021. We will of course review this closer to the time, but we are ever hopeful that we will be in a very different position towards the end of this academic year.
For any Year 11 and 13 leavers who wish to receive their certificates before the event in July, they can be collected from the Main Office from 1st Dec onwards.
We have attached below some useful information from Welsh Government for parents and carers. This includes details on the Track & Trace system currently in operation, and also when and for how long you may need to isolate.

Thank you to everyone that has continues to ensure that their children attend school in proper school uniform. It is important that pupils wear the correct clothing as our uniform helps to put all young people on an equal footing, supports the safeguarding of your children and creates a sense of school community. If you are having issues with sourcing school uniform please be aware that there is a grant available from PCC for those that qualify, and we also have a small amount of uniform stock at school for emergencies. Details of our school uniform can be found on our school website, along with a copy of the dress code policy.

There have been lots of new rules and tweaks to our school systems since the start of this academic year to ensure that we are doing everything possible to keep our whole school community safe, and these changes will all remain in place for the rest of this term. Some of our new strategies implemented include a one way system, almost 100 additional hand sanitising stations around school, and all staff and pupils have been provided with face masks. As adults we all check for the basics before we leave home- keys, wallet, phone. ✅
MHS pupils we need you all to check before leaving home that you have – a face mask, a drink of water, your own set of stationery. ✅
We at MHS are doing everything we can to support the safety of our whole school community, but it is vital we all play our part. ⚓️
All parents and carers in all year groups have been issued login codes for our school app WEDUC, this is one of the easiest ways to keep in touch with us and stay up to date with school life.
Please contact us if you need any support getting started with the app, or have any trouble logging in, so we can help you get connected.
