Virtual Open Evening

Croeso i’n Noson Agored rithwir gyntaf erioed, welcome to our virtual Open Evening here at Milford Haven School.

Visiting a school is usually all about the people: being able to get a sense of the teachers, who will be guiding and nurturing your child; seeing pupils in action; and trying to envisage your child amongst their new peer group. Whilst that is not quite possible at the moment, the Milford Haven School community still very much want to meet you and have put together a range of videos to watch and gain a feel for our school and what your child can expect.

We encourage you to take a ‘Virtual Tour’, which you can do by clicking the videos on this page. We hope that you will develop a flavour for the school through this virtual tour and very much look forward to welcoming you in person to our school when it is safe to do so.

Please do contact us if you have any further questions following the evening. Our team is always on hand to assist with any further questions you may have.

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you all; as Headteacher of Milford Haven School it really is my pleasure to share with you tonight our virtual Open evening. This is an opportunity for you to see the school, meet some staff, and get an insight into some of the many great things that take place here at MHS to support the development of our pupils.

ESTYN VISIT- OCTOBER 2021

As I am sure you will be aware, we recently had a visit from ESTYN at the end of last term. The visit was extremely positive, and I am delighted to share with you the feedback we have been given.

I am overjoyed that this newest ESTYN report from October 2021 captures the true progress and ethos here at Milford Haven School. The latest report details the improvements that have been made over recent years and the continued high expectations we have for our young people, this is all thanks to the incredible hard work of our pupils, staff and wider school family. I am particularly proud that ESTYN have commented on the strong connection we have built within the Milford Haven community, especially given the proactive approach we took during the pandemic period to inject additional support into the community in some truly creative ways.

I have said to the inspection team that although we highly value academic success here at MHS, we know that our pupils are so much more than just the grades that they achieve. ESTYN has said. “The school has refined and strengthened its wellbeing provision and this has had a positive impact on behaviour, attitudes to learning and attendance. This in turn has reinforced the schools high expectations of behaviour and attendance.” We are aiming to do the very best for each young person in our care at MHS, striving to help all children to nurture their talents, build on their strengths, recognise where they may find something tricky and help them have the skills to move forward from this. ESTYN specifically commented, “…the school has strengthened substantially its approach to the development of pupils’ skills.”

We work hard to help grow caring, thoughtful and passionate pupils who are proud of themselves and the community they live in. We are so very pleased that ESTYN recognised this in their report, commenting specifically on, “The sense of a close and supportive community and team ethos are now strong aspects of life at Milford Haven School.”

A huge and heartfelt thank you to our whole school community for your continued support, and I very much look forward to continuing on this positive journey with you all to make MHS the best that it can be.

Senedd MHS- pupil voice like you’ve never seen it!

Milford Haven School has moved away from the traditional structure of various school councils, and have instead developed the unique ‘Senedd MHS’. One of the many benefits of our new system is that is helps to educate our young people on how the Country is governed by mirroring the Senedd structure. Senedd MHS recreates how decisions are made both locally and Nationally, allowing pupils the opportunity to experience real world pupil voice through an age appropriate platform. We feel it is our moral duty to help create ethically and politically well informed citizens. We want our young people to feel empowered to express themselves appropriately and productively, and also for them to be involved in positively instigating change to help our communities thrive.

Our last video is possibly the most valuable of the whole online event, our very own pupils giving their hints and tips on the best bits of secondary school and how to make the most of your time at MHS!
