Headteacher’s blog 30.09.2022

Shwmae and welcome back to this week’s blog. Once again we have had so many wonderful things happening at MHS this week. Thank you for joining us to celebrate our wonderful pupils and staff. Diolch.

A book for every pupil
A fantastic day was had by all at the MHS Book Fair. Thanks to the Books Council of Wales we have been able to partner with Victoria Bookshop to give every pupil in school a free book. Pupils were extremely excited and humbled to be able to choose their own book to take home and keep. Thank you to everyone involved in allowing us to give our pupils this amazing opportunity.

I am so happy, I get to keep my very own Harry Potter book, I love it!

MHS Art Exhibition
GCSE art and design pupils held an exhibition at the town’s Torch Theatre to showcase their talents.

Alongside the class of 2022, the art and design GCSE classes of 2020 and 2021 also had their artwork on display as they had not been able to hold their own exhibitions on their leaving years due to the covid pandemic putting events on hold for two years.

The exhibition showcased the talents of the pupils in the form of paintings, drawings and sculptures. Their work also used a wide variety of media and materials and a range of inspiration.

Tesco sponsored the exhibition, which closed on September 29.

The school said that it is a ‘wonderful celebration of hard work, creativity and enthusiasm from the pupils of Milford Haven School – created through some difficult periods – and the exhibition is an ideal opportunity to promote the work and skills of the young people to the local community.’

The Big Picture Project on Tour
Did you know that being creative can reduce stress, anxiety and help reduce symptoms of depression? Our MHS Art Club do and that is why they want to invite our community to join them in creating a Big Picture together for World Mental Health Day.

Charities and organisations such as 2Wish, Samaritans and Liss Listens will be teaming up with us to help paint our Big Picture. Our Big Picture will go on to be donated to the community and be displayed in Milford Haven to spread joy and positivity.

Join us on Friday 14th September between 10am and 2pm at Pill Social Centre. No experience needed, everyone is welcome and all equipment and refreshments will be provided on the day.

We can’t wait to see you all

Q&A with Alumni
MHS rugby girls had the opportunity to have a Q&A with former senior prefect of the school Caitlyn Arran. Caitlyn has played this last season with the Scarlets and presented us with her team photo. Thank you Caitlyn for coming in and inspiring our young rugby players and good luck with your new team in London.

GCSE POD is a fantastic resource which Milford Haven School continues to promote amongst learners and their parents/carers.

GCSE POD holds a wealth of support for a range of subjects, with some content specific for KS3 as well as KS4. Learners are encouraged to use their MHS Google log-in to access the site and start exploring the site which could prove extremely beneficial for our KS4 learners.

Young person’s mental health toolkit from HWB.
Below is a link to the young person’s mental health toolkit from HWB, designed for 11 to 25-year-olds. Here you will find six playlists to direct you to a wide range of online resources to help you through the lockdown and beyond. In each of the playlists you’ll find self-help websites, apps, helplines, and more that are here to support your mental health and well-being.
Please remember: if you’re finding it difficult to cope, make sure you speak to someone you trust. Who this might be is different for everyone, but it might include family members or carers, a teacher, a helpline, or a doctor. How you feel is important and lots of people are here to help if you need them.
