Headteacher’s blog 29.04.2022

Shwmae, and welcome back to school after what I hope was an enjoyable and restful Easter break. As we begin the start of the summer term we already have many things to look forward to and as always our pupils will give us plenty of reasons to celebrate their successes. As pupils are preparing for exams I would like to say pob lwc to all pupils sitting exams in the coming weeks.

Year 10 mock exams
Year 10 have been working extremely hard for their mock exams that started this week. They will continue to sit exams over the next two weeks and it is a great opportunity for them to practice the exam technique for each area, find concepts and gaps in their learning, and ensure they are sitting the correct papers in subjects. We would like to thank pupils for their exemplary behaviour this week and would like to wish them all pob lwc in the weeks going forward.
Celebrating success!
Congratulations to these fantastic pupils of Milford Haven school who won the U15s Pembrokeshire league cup with Neyland AFC. Da iawn pawb!

Hygiene Packs
This week we have some exciting news on the period poverty grant and how here at Milford Haven School we have chosen to focus our grant spend on products that support feminie hygiene including reusable items, this is in order to maximise the long term impact we can make. There are two stand out areas that reusable items will positively impact, finances and the environment.
All of our female pupils in Year 7 are being offered the opportunity to receive a Feminine Hygiene Pack, the contents of which are aimed to help equip the girls with some of the basic supplies needed for a period and also to support positive body hygiene. The feminine hygiene packs will contain items such as- deodorant, hairbrush, reusable sanitary pads, face wipes etc.

Bags of Books at MHS 📚
This week saw the return of our hugely popular Bags of Books event at Milford Haven School. On Thursday April 28th an army of helpers hung over 100 books to our front fencing (Steynton Road entrance). Each bag contained a brand new book for children of all ages. Our pupils, their families and the community were encouraged to come and give our books a new home. We are very proud to be able to support our community in developing strong literacy skills and a love of reading in our young people and we love seeing the children getting excited to jump into the pages of a new adventure.  As always it was a roaring success and every book found a new home.

GCSE POD is a fantastic resource which Milford Haven School continues to promote amongst learners and their parents/carers.

GCSE POD holds a wealth of support for a range of subjects, with some content specific for KS3 as well as KS4. Learners are encouraged to use their MHS Google log-in to access the site and start exploring the site which could prove extremely beneficial for our KS4 learners.
Please look at the following parent site tour where you can see what is on offer: https://bit.ly/2P1hJKZ
Young person’s mental health toolkit from HWB.
Below is a link to the young person’s mental health toolkit from HWB, designed for 11 to 25-year-olds. Here you will find six playlists to direct you to a wide range of online resources to help you through the lockdown and beyond. In each of the playlists you’ll find self-help websites, apps, helplines, and more that are here to support your mental health and well-being.
Please remember: if you’re finding it difficult to cope, make sure you speak to someone you trust. Who this might be is different for everyone, but it might include family members or carers, a teacher, a helpline, or a doctor. How you feel is important and lots of people are here to help if you need them.
