On behalf of myself and all staff at Milford Haven School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2019/20 school year!

We are looking forward to nurturing a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognise that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education, and as partners we share the responsibility for our children’s success. We want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities and we ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

  • Attends school daily and arrives on time, dressed in correct uniform and ready for the day’s learning experience
  • Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
  • Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
  • Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
  • Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
  • Knows that you expect him/her to do their best, whatever that may be.

We have been reviewing the start and end of the school day, and strongly recommend that all parents and carers who drive pupils to school please drop off and pick up from the Thornton school entrance. Your children’s safety is paramount to us so we hope that you will all please comply with this request and help us minimise the risk to your children during these peak traffic times.

Our school start and finish times remain the same this year as they have always been, school starts at 8.45am and ends at 3.10pm. We have however moved our ‘form time’, which is now named ‘ASPIRE’,to the end of the day. This means that pupils now go straight to lesson 1 at 8.45am. Our last lesson of the day now ends at 2.45pm, with the remaining 25 minutes of the day being allocated ‘form time’ where we cover PSE topics and support pupils’ wellbeing.

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 13th

Tuesday October 1st 3.20pm-4.20pm is our special Year 7 ‘Keeping in Touch’ Evening. This will be an informal opportunity for parents and carers of Year 7 pupils to be able to meet their child’s house tutor, Head of House, and also the Key Stage 3 Manager.

At Milford Haven School we believe that a healthy relationship between home and school is essential for pupils to thrive, and so although we use a variety of methods to keep you updated on your child’s progress sometimes nothing is a substitute for a good old face to face catch up. We look forward to welcoming you into our school on Tuesday October 1st between 3.20pm and 4.20pm.

There will be two Numeracy Mock exams taking place for all of Year 11 on Monday 9th and Wednesday 11th of September. Each exam starts at 9am, so pupils need to be ready in the canteen at 8.45am after leaving bags in the locking area. All pupils will need to bring the required equipment with them to complete the papers, especially a calculator for Wednesday’s paper.

Revision lists have been posted on Google Classroom before the summer break and are still there, details of revision sites are also on Google Classroom.  If pupils are unsure of their tier of entry they should contact their maths teacher.

As per the school calendar there is a UCAS event next Thursday on September 12th. This is for Year 13 pupils only, but will not take place on Milford Haven School site. All Year 13 pupils will receive a letter inviting them to attend, and also to share details such as time and location of the event. Also on Thursday September 12th is the Year 12 Parents’ Information Evening from 4-6pm. This is an informal opportunity for you to come and meet some key staff working with our sixth form, check how your children are settling in to sixth form, and ask any questions you may have. This evening is also accessible for pupils and parents who may have reconsidered their choices and wish to return to MHS sixth form.

Don’t forget to follow our school facebook page to keep up to date with announcements, important school information, and most importantly photos of your wonderful children doing amazing things!
