As I sit down to write this blog, I find it hard to believe just how quickly the weeks are flying by and that we are already nearly at the end of the academic year! We seem to have moved from pupils working exceptionally hard completing GCSE exams and saying goodbye, to supporting the Year 6 pupil’s transition to secondary school. We have made progress on the priorities highlighted by Estyn especially with regard to recommendation 4 this year. I am pleased to report on how we are supporting our pupils through our different provisions.  The senior leadership team spent time researching different approaches to this, and we now have a strong structure that we feel best suits our pupils and our school. We focused on the provision by developing opportunities for pupils to develop and strengthen literacy and numeracy skills for Key 3  pupil’s via The Bay. We have also developed an additional alternative curriculum for Key Stage 4 pupils via the Harbour.

The impact of the support pupils are now offered has seen an increase in attendance, improved engagement and wellbeing, as well as an increase in literacy and numeracy scores.

We have lots of exciting events coming up in the next few weeks – we look forward to seeing you there and sharing the celebrations!

Family Forum update: Thanks to all the family members who attended the Family Forum on Monday, this was the last one of this academic year. I really appreciate all of the support you have offered in the challenges we face, and that you have so generously given so much of your time to be so involved in school life and the educational journey of your children.  Your voice is extremely important to us, and hopefully we have demonstrated in the Family Forum some of the changes and monitoring we have put in place as a result of us working collaboratively together. My wish is that the Family Forum continues to grow and develop to be a tool and asset we can all use to help pupils at Milford Haven School achieve their full potential. #togetheraspiretogetherachieve

A huge congratulations to our new senior prefect team, pictured above. It is a massive achievement and honour to represent the school in these roles, and we are very fortunate to have you as ambassadors for Milford Haven School. We look forward to seeing all that you achieve in the coming year, and would like to thank you for your immediate positive involvement and impact across the school.

Here’s some information for you for the school Eisteddfod which is a week today on Friday the 5th of July. I hope that pupils have been submitting lots of entries for your houses and getting involved for the on stage competitions. Final submission date is July the 2nd. All pupils in Years 7 & 8 will attend the Eisteddfod in the Steynton Hall lessons 3 to 5. Year 9 & 10 pupils involved in the on stage competitions will be informed that they will be allowed to attend as well. On stage competitors will be given a chance to practise on stage during lessons 1 and 2.

We ask students to bring in a suitable top on the day to change into at break time. Normal trousers/skirts to by worn. This top has to be colour-coded to your house colour:

Diamond/Deimwnt – White/Gwyn

Dragon/Draig– Red/Coch

Daring/Dewr – Green/Gwyrdd

Defender/Diffynnwr– Blue/Glas

If you haven’t got a top of that colour, you’ll remain in your school uniform. You may bring in Welsh flags or small banners with your house name in Welsh on it.

On the day, pupils are to go to lesson 3 as normal and will be called to the hall in their houses. Eisteddfod day is great fun and the more support you give your house the more fun you’ll get out of it. Pob lwc i bawb a gwelwn ni chi ar y 5ed o fis Gorffennaf!
