Blog 10.1.20

Happy New Year, blwyddyn Newydd Dda and welcome back.  I hope each of you had a restful and enjoyable time with your family and friends during the winter break.

As pupils and staff returned on Monday the atmosphere here at MHS is very positive, with the new year bringing with it a fresh start for many. As the second term commences the staffing team and I have one vision for our students, and we hope it closely matches yours. We want ALL our young people to become the best that they can be. We want them to be successful through hard work, consistent attendance, persistence, taking responsibility for their learning and proactively utilising help from our amazing staffing team. We want this for all our pupils because these traits will build good habits that will carry them profitably throughout their life.

We have high expectations for Milford Haven School students, because they are so very capable of producing great results!

A reminder that our pupil RIKA shake classes started this week. Any pupils wanting to take part are to please see Miss Baker for consent forms or to make payments. We do still have some places available, but please note that pupils need to be booked into the session and cannot just turn up to the class as we have a limited amount of equipment.  The pupil RIKA class will run every Tuesday up to February Half Term from 3.30-4pm, and pupils are welcome to use the free EXCEL bus home if required.

As an introductory offer we are subsidising the cost so it is only £6 for the six sessions, amazing value at only £1 a class for the first 6 weeks!

A huge thank you to everyone that has already purchased tickets for our upcoming school production of Grease, we really appreciate your support. We have had lots of queries this week from pupils asking where they can purchase tickets. Ms Arran will be in the glass office in our school library selling tickets during Break 1 Monday, Wednesday and also on Friday. As well as this Ms Arran will also be in the main office after school on Friday till 4pm should any parents/ carers or members of the public wish to pop in and purchase tickets. We hope that many of you will be able to come and see the performances, as pupils and staff have worked extremely hard to make this a spectacular show!

***FREE FIRST AID TRAINING***

Milford Haven School have an exciting opportunity for twelve members of our local community to receive free first aid training! This Level 3 accredited course will take place here at school on Friday January 31st, it usually costs around £50 per place, so this really is a fantastic chance to learn some new and invaluable life skills without incurring the cost of the training. The ‘Letters Home’ page on our school website contains the expression of interest form which needs to be completed and returned to Miss Baker at school if you would like to put your name forward for a place.

Please note that, as per the attached paperwork, you do not have to have a child enrolled here at Milford Haven School to be eligible for a place. Please feel free to share this across our community or with anyone that you think would be interested in taking part.

Following a few queries this week, we would like to clarify that we have moved ASPIRE back to mornings as per the information sent out prior to the holidays, but we have not changed to an asymmetric week.

This means that at present school finishes at 3.10pm every day, there are no early finishes.

There is currently a consultation for the process of an asymmetric week at Milford Haven School, and should parents and carers wish to be involved in the discussion around a potential move to an asymmetric week there is a Parental Consultation meeting on Wednesday 22nd January 2020 from 5.30-6.30pm.

During the evening of Tuesday the 7th of January 2020 a serious incident occurred behind the shops on Havens Head retail park where wooden pallets were set alight.

This incident is a safety concern to the whole community, even though the incident happened outside of the school day and off site we are still doing all we can to support this investigation.

Police are currently carrying out CCTV, social media and other enquiries to identify persons responsible.
If anyone has information that could assist the police investigation they should speak to a member of school staff or contact Milford Haven Neighbourhood Police on Tel 101, or email on MilfordHavenNPT@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk quoting reference DP- 20200107-275

Our Year 8 girls played extremely well in the Pembrokeshire hockey tournament they attended this week, resulting in MHS being overall Pembrokeshire Champions! In the pool they drew with Preseli 1-1, and beat Greenhill 2-0. This took them to the final against Haverfordwest High, with the final score being 2-1 to Milford.

We are extremely proud of everyone involved in the tournament , the girls all worked really well as a team and did Milford Haven School and themselves proud!
