18th May

Dear Parents/Carer,
Up and down the country people are getting set for a patriotic weekend to celebrate the marriage of Harry and Meghan. In honour of the Royal Wedding Girls Club held a special Royal Afternoon Tea today at lunchtime. It was lovely to be able to spend time with this wonderful group of young ladies, and mark a once in a lifetime event.

Thank you to everyone that attended our coffee morning today, it was lovely to welcome so many parents to Milford Haven School. As mindfulness is being increasingly used in schools to offer another branch of support to pupils, we felt it was vital that parents have the opportunity to experience some mindfulness techniques and learn about the possible benefits this could have for your children and their learning. There will be no coffee morning next Friday, instead we will have an ALN drop in session, anyone who would like to speak to our ALNCO about their child and any additional needs they may have are welcome to pop in between 9.30 and 10.30am. No appointment is necessary.

A very big well done to the Year 11 students, who have now completed their design and make task for their Product Design & Resistant Materials course. I have been amazed by the standard of work this year, photos of the final creations have been posted on our school Facebook page to allow parents, carers and family members a look at some of the incredible work your children have produced.

Yesterday we were proud to take one of the biggest teams MHS has entered for a few years to the County Sports competition, 65 pupils represented the school with great distinction and their behaviour was outstanding. Alot of the pupils, boys and girls stepped out of their comfort zones to fill events that had gaps in them to make sure the school was represented in all events. A great team spirit was shown and we are very proud of every pupil that competed.

All the pupils performed amazingly, with a lot of pupils just missing out on the finals and top 3 positions either by cm’s or 10ths of a second. Congratulations to all that took part.

Today was Hat Day, in support of Barnardos, and our wonderful Sixth Form pupils all wore a variety of hats which was fantastic fun, and also raised much-needed funds for charity to help give vulnerable children a better future. Today whether you wanted to be a doctor,· a nurse, or even a wizard, with the help of a hat our sixth forms could be whoever they wanted to be! The big idea behind the fun today was the Barnardos discovery that 88 per cent of young people ‘lack confidence and doubt they will succeed in life’ – so we wanted to help. Hat Day was a chance to remind each and every child here at MHS that we all have a future to get excited about, that there’s nothing stopping anyone from getting out there and becoming the person they really want to be.

Hot Choc Friday continues to be one of the highlights of my school week, it is a real pleasure to spend some quality time with students on a Friday afternoon and celebrate the very many successes of your children.

Our final year Hair & Beauty students have organised a creative show case of their work to end their course. Parents and family of the pupils are invited to attend next Tuesday May 22nd from 1.30pm-2pm. The showcase will be held at our off site provision at Cedar Court in Milford Haven. Entry will be £1 and it would be fantastic to see lots of you there to join in the celebration of your children’s hard work.

All pupils have been given their individual exam timetables, but please see below a copy of the overall GCSE exam timetable for next week. Please be aware that all morning exams start at 9am, therefore it is vital that students are in school no later than 8.45am in order to be registered, taken to the correct location and are ready to start their exam papers by 9am. We value your on-going support in ensuring pupil punctuality during this important time in your child’s school life.

We will be using our school social media to post reminders about upcoming exams and additional support available at school, so if you don’t access our school Facebook page already it is well worth having a look. Have a lovely weekend.

Yours sincerely,
Ms Ceri-Ann Morris
