Community Celebration 2021

Shwmae pawb, croeso i’n Dathliad Cymunedol rhithwir 2021 and welcome to our virtual Community Celebration 2021.

Whilst we would have loved to have invited all learners, their families and of course our prize givers to celebrate with us in person, we are delighted that you have joined us online to mark this special occasion. There are a series of awards issued every year that acknowledge the achievements and outstanding efforts of many of our pupils in a variety of fields. This year is no exception, with over 150 young people receiving awards for a mixture of academic success and personal development, as well as some incredible and selfless contributions to the school and wider community.

Diolch yn fawr to all those involved in putting together this online alternative for what is always one of the highlights of our school calendar, we very much hope you enjoy the celebrations of some of our incredible young people.

Traditionally our Headteacher would open the Community Celebration with a greeting message, please see below the Headteachers’ address as she extends a warm online welcome and shares her thanks to those involved in this special event.

Special Award to the Year 9 Boys Football Team

A huge da iawn to our Year 9 boys football team, who are being rewarded with special trophies in recognition of being runners up for Pembrokeshire Team of the Year. Although they sadly did not win, we are extremely proud of them for making it this far and would like to note that they were one of three finalists from a category with very stiff competition.
A special thanks to Mr Edwards, team coach, who has said; “These boys have been a credit to MHS, themselves and their families since they joined our school family. They have trained hard, played hard and truly deserved to make the semi finals last year. I genuinely believe that they could have won the Welsh Cup had it not been cancelled due to CVD19 restrictions, but let’s make it happen in Year 10! This isn’t just about football, they are a talented and polite group of boys who are a pleasure to work with and deserve all of the successes no doubt coming to them in their futures.”

Special Award to the KS3 Minecraft Team

A talented group of MHS pupils from KS3 have recently been involved in a very special development project. Using Minecraft education they redesigned Milford Haven’s train station, there is a video on our social media page which contains a montage of the completed models.
We were delighted to be invited to take part in this pilot project involving South West Trains, Technocamps and Swansea university. A brief was presented that involved a redesign of Milford Haven train station and students modelled their design ideas using Minecraft education edition.
The project took place during lockdown and involved about 30 of our key stage 3 students. 12 students submitted completed designs for judging and the panel (including members of all the parties involved as well as the town council) chose a creation by Zac Campbell as the winner and several others were awarded highly commended.

What an achievement, da iawn I chi gyd.

This year we have had limited opportunities to fundriase due to Covid 19 and the surounding restrictions, however all four Houses have joined forces and even in these difficult times still managed to continue their support of some invaluable local charities.

Below is a small selection of photos from the Community Celebration, a whole album of photos is located on our school Facebook page where you will find lots of snapshots of proud smiles, certificates and trophies.

A very special group mucial performance by our Year 10 GCSE Music class.

It has been an absolute pleasure to celebrate the success of so many of our young people this afternoon. The breadth of talent along with the effort and dedication the pupils have displayed towards both their academic studies and contributing to the community over the course of this most challenging year has been exceptional. It just leaves me to say I hope you all have a wonderful summer and we look forward to continuing to celebrate your children’s successes next year. Diolch.
